When he reached adolescence, Bobby met Professor Charles Xavier who revealed that he was also a powerful telepathic mutant, who convinced him that his genes and powers were gifts that he could learn to control and use for the benefit of his race and humans, so Bobby was invited to join the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters.

Present Iceman eventually admitted that he is indeed gay, saying that he was already persecuted for being a mutant and an X-Man and he didn’t want to add being gay to the list.
