Advice for gay christians
In Part 2 of this series, we tackle questions on homosexuality and Christianity: what Jesus taught, God’s design, and why truth and love go together.
You may think, as I did, that this is not something likely to ever effect your family. So you need to inform yourself and think through the issues—and your response—carefully. Some more information about this kind of legislation can be found here.
How can we help Christians who are struggling with homosexual desires? I would encourage them to be careful not to define themselves as "homosexual." Don't say, "I am gay," or "I am a homosexual." Say, rather, "I struggle with homosexual desires." That's a very small—and huge—distinction. There was a Christian brother in our church who had AIDS due to his history in the homosexual.
Today almost everyone knows of someone who identifies as gay or deals with a measure of same gender attractions. Even if a Christian finds himself in a season of life where he does not personally know of a same gender attracted SGA person in his sphere of influence, this question is of utmost importance in light of the change of our culture and the growing willingness of Christians dealing with SGA to openly talk about their issues. So how does one help a gay-identified friend or SGA friend?
